BRITISH BALLET ORGANISATION
The BBO is one of the leading dance examination boards in the United Kingdom and provides an examination syllabus in classical ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance, with a teacher training programme that qualifies people to work as dance teachers in the private and state sectors.
Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching
The Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching introduces and develops the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to teach dance. The qualification has a specific focus on knowledge of dance pedagogy and how to develop a personal practice. The qualification consists of four mandatory modules. The course comprises of two modules which focus on developing knowledge of dance teaching and a further two modules on safe dance practice and career development.
Observing Teaching & Learning Strategies
Undertake a range of teaching observations in order to inform their personal practice.
Identify, analyse, and evaluate a range of teaching and learning strategies. This should include pedagogic approaches, class structure, resources, delivery skills, and assessment methods.
Ability to reflect on the relevance of the observations to their own pedagogic practice
Finance & Career Development
Demonstrate the ability to create a budget to support the development of a professional portfolio of work
Evaluate the actions and processes that allow compliance with current legal and professional requirements in relation to dance teaching including copyright, music licensing and insurance
Demonstration of an understanding of the communication skills which are required for successful employment within the dance teaching industry.
Safe Dance Practice
Demonstration of knowledge of a safe dancing environment
Demonstration of health and safety within their practice
The ability to prepare students to dance and recover
Applying Teaching and Learning Strategies
Analyse and understand a range of creative pedagogic practices to address diversity and inclusivity
Ability to identify different learning needs within a cohort and to plan to meet those needs
Ability to plan and deliver an effective microteaching session
Ability to identify, evaluate and reflect upon strengths and areas for development in their pedagogic practice
